About this tip calculator
A tip calculator removes mental math at the end of a meal. It is especially handy when splitting a check among friends or deciding between 15%, 18%, or 20% tip.
How to use
- Enter the pre-tip bill (after tax or before — follow local custom).
- Choose a tip percentage.
- Enter how many people are splitting.
Formula
Tip = Bill × (Tip% ÷ 100)
Total = Bill + Tip · Per person = Total ÷ People
Worked examples
Example: $86.50 bill, 18% tip, 2 people → tip $15.57, total $102.07, ≈ $51.04 each.
Tips
- Common US restaurant tips: 15–20% for standard service.
- Some regions include service charge — avoid double tipping.
- For delivery, consider distance and order size, not only percentage.
